Matt Fahey has been working in the canyon as a guide for the past 15 seasons.  Presently working at OARS/Grand Canyon Dories, he has done trips of all kinds in the canyon and around the world:  including three summers in Chile, a spring in Cataract Canyon at high water, five years on the Salt, and three years on the Gauley as a video boater.

Although Matt's formal education is in moving pictures, his present fascination is still photography.  Dealing with themes of time and texture, his traditional black and whites, 35mm color slide, and digital shots resonate his film-maker's eye.

The recent series of night-sky-scapes tell multiple stories.  Those who know the canyon can relish the memories of staring up at the night sky in wonder.  Those who are new to the images can contemplate the simplicity of the image and the profound nature of the subject matter.  As the earth rotates, we are simply along for the ride.

When he''s not in the canyon or behind a camera, Matt enjoys the cold surf and whitewater of Northern California in his kayak.
